Stop the Quarry - Our Health Depends Upon It!
Dust and noise are two constant irritants associated with quarries. They go hand in hand.
Whether the source is industrial machinery crushing, scraping, and tumbling boulders into small pieces of stone, or trucks rumbling and rattling along backcountry roads, quarries are a noisy, dusty business. Wherever the dust lands, be it in a human lung or on a plant's leaf, it stunts growth and contributes to disease. The effects of noise can be more immediate. It damages the inner ear, and the combination of noise and vibration interferes with breeding success in livestock and wildlife.
If the effects of noise and dust are a worry, then come to an Open House and Information Meeting about the Lowndes Holdings Corp. Quarry Application on Thursday April 6th, 2006. The City of Hamilton Planning Department will provide an update on the application to develop an industrial open pit quarry on the 11th concession of Flamborough. Representatives from Lowndes Holdings Corp. and the chairperson of FORCE will also speak at this meeting.
